About this course

The Graduate Diploma of Intercultural Ministry course is designed for those who hold a tertiary qualification in a non-theological discipline, who wish to pursue a graduate qualification in intercultural ministry, and who are seeking skills in intercultural studies to enhance their professional work. Graduates will be able to apply a body of intercultural knowledge in a range of contexts relating to ministry and/or further learning. 

Graduates will have added particular transferable knowledge and skills in intercultural ministry to enhance their work in Christian ministry and mission.

This award is not approved for CRICOS study.

Course Details

Admission to the Graduate Diploma of Intercultural Ministry requires:

  • Satisfactorily completed a three-year AQF Level 7 award or equivalent in any discipline (or equivalent) from an institution recognised by the Academic Board; OR
  • either a Sydney College of Divinity Graduate Certificate in Intercultural Ministry (GCIM) OR Graduate Certificate in Arts (GradCertArts).
  • To receive the award they are required to complete a further 36 credit points (4 units), and surrender the GCIM or GradCertArts upon graduation; AND
  • Satisfactorily completes a pre-enrolment interview with a relevant course advisor.

 

English Proficiency

Applicants whose entry qualifications were obtained in an institution where English is not the language of instruction normally require a minimum IELTS (or equivalent) result of 7.0 with no score less than 6.5 in all bands of the test.

The Graduate Diploma of Intercultural Ministry requires the completion of 72 credit points, taken from the Sydney College of Divinity Schedule of units of study coded within the 8100 and 9200 series units.

 

The Graduate Diploma of Intercultural Ministry requires the completion of 72 credit points (8 units) which shall include:

  • four units (36 credit points) taken from the list of approved Master of Intercultural Ministry specialist units;
  • four elective units (36 credit points) from the 8100 and 9200 series taken from the Sydney College of Divinity Schedule of units of study coded within the 8100 and 9200 series.

 

Units coded “A” are not counted towards a Concentration or Specialisation in any discipline or subdiscipline.

Knowledge

Graduates will have:

  • specialised theoretical and technical knowledge related to the practice of intercultural ministry which are transferable to a variety of complex intercultural contexts;
  • an understanding of the principles and methods of inquiry applicable to intercultural theory and their application to real-world ministry practice.

 

Skills

Graduates will demonstrate specialised cognitive and technical skills in intercultural ministry, so that they are able independently to:

  • Analyse critically, evaluate and adapt information to complete a range of activities associated with intercultural ministry;
  • Analyse, generate and provide solutions to complex problems to guide effective engagement in intercultural ministry;
  • transmit intercultural knowledge, skills and ideas to specialist and non specialist of audiences.

 

Applications of Knowledge and Skills

Graduates will have the ability to:

  • make high level, independent judgements related to a range of issues pertaining to intercultural living and/or ministry;
  • plan and execute an advanced research or field-based project in an area of intercultural ministry.

A candidate may seek credit up to a maximum of 36 credit points in the Graduate Diploma of Intercultural Ministry.

 

Credit will be granted for units that are from an equivalent award or institution and have outcomes, content, demand hours, and assessment equivalent to that of units in the Graduate Diploma of Intercultural Ministry.

 

Credit for Recognised Prior Learning may be granted subject to a successful application.

 

Progress to Further Awards

Students who satisfactorily complete this award will be eligible to articulate with full credit to the Sydney College of Divinity Master of Intercultural Ministry, upon which they are required to surrender their Graduate Diploma of Intercultural Ministry, provided that they meet the entry requirements of that award.

This award is not approved for CRICOS study.
The Graduate Diploma of Intercultural Ministry is offered through the individual colleges and an application for enrolment must be made to the Registrar of the teaching institution. The registrar will be able to help you with any information regarding your study, including fees, units, mode of delivery, and timetable.

 

A student is designated as full-time if enrolled in three units (27 credit points) or more in a semester or the equivalent in a trimester. Sydney College of Divinity offers a wide range of units and students have the option to study one or more units across the colleges delivering Sydney College of Divinity awards, whilst enrolled with one college.
