The unit Ways of Knowing explores and examines different modes of knowing, shows how discourse is possible in each mode and attempts to underpin thought in other disciplines. It is an elective unit and forms part of a Specialisation in Philosophy.

At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse theories of knowledge with an awareness of their relevance
  2. Assess the distinctive contribution and validity of different kinds of knowing
  3. Sustain an extended argument on the validity of a particular kind of knowledge
  4. Analyse and critique a substantial philosophical text
  5. Engage in critical dialogue on various claims to knowledge.
