Theology of Holy Orders
The unit Theology of Holy Orders explores the history, theology and practice of the sacrament of Holy Orders. It will give students a solid theological foundation for an understanding of ordained ministry and its practice in the pastoral life of the church.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
- demonstrate a familiarity with the history of the sacrament of Holy Orders
- demonstrate an understanding of the ecclesiological foundations of ordained ministry
- analyse the rites of ordination and their theology of episcopate, presbyterate and diaconate
- evaluate recent literature on the office and ministry of bishop, priest and deacon
- apply the theology of Holy Orders to current questions about the life and ministry of priests and deacons.
