Practice of Pastoral Supervision

This graduate course unit aims to introduce students to the underlying principles of pastoral supervision and develop their understanding and practice skills as a supervisor of those in a helping profession.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  1. articulate a coherent expression of the principles undergirding the effective practice of pastoral supervision;
  2. explain how a deeper pastoral understanding may inform human experiences (e.g. trauma; grief; suffering; mid-life; sin; forgiveness; meaning; etc.);
  3. critically analyse how such pastoral considerations are manifested in professional supervisory situations;
  4. utilise reflective practice as a means of improving the self-awareness, coping and flourishing of those being pastorally supervised;
  5. apply the principles of pastoral supervision to their current work or ministry situation.
