Jeremiah

The unit Jeremiah enables students to extend their critical abilities in biblical research by studying in close detail one of the major prophetic books of the Old Testament. It engages students in a critical examination of Jeremiah to provide an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Israelite prophecy. As an Advanced Elective unit, it builds on the critical skills formed in pre-requisite study and forms a part of a Specialisation in the Discipline of Biblical Studies.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Articulate a cohesive knowledge of the historical, geographical, and social background of Jeremiah
  2. Provide a cogent understanding of the significance of prophetic forms for the interpretation of Jeremiah
  3. Integrate critically a range of recent secondary literature resources related to the textual and thematic study of Jeremiah
  4. Produce a scholarly exercise in the exegesis of selected texts from Jeremiah
  5. Apply a critical appreciation of Jeremiah’s prophetic message to Christian life and worship in the present era.
