Introduction to Mission
This unit introduces missiology as an academic discipline, providing an overview of key biblical, cultural, historical, and strategic aspects of mission. It furnishes data to assess various expressions of Christian mission, and indicates the challenges of communicating the gospel message and enlisting the sending churches in this task.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
- explain the biblical basis of Christian mission and identify critical issues in contemporary theologies of mission as espoused by major branches of the Christian Church;
- outline key historical, cultural and strategic perspectives related to the practice of world mission;
- suggest strategies to strengthen local church commitment to and involvement in world mission;
- identify ways in which Australian churches might address cultural and religious diversity in their outreach to the local community.
