Developmental Theory and Pastoral Counselling

This postgraduate unit  provides an advanced understanding of the physical, social, psychological and spiritual dimensions of the human life cycle through all developmental stages from infancy to older age. It considers life cycle theorists, moral & faith development, developmental tasks, issues pertaining to gender studies, and the life cycle and pastoral counselling.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  1. understand recent developments described by a number of developmental theorists
  2. understand developments in the nature of faith and moral reasoning
  3. demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and reflect critically in relation to contemporary gender issues
  4. address developmental concerns within pastoral care and counselling and attain increased self-awareness of developmental issues within their own lives
  5. apply knowledge and skills with creativity to the stages of the life cycle.
