Clinical Pastoral Education 3

This postgraduate unit  builds on the previous units of Clinical Pastoral Education.  It further develops an awareness of the pastoral dynamics in a specialised area of ministry. As such it investigates the dynamics of pastoral relationships, spiritual assessment, how to document pastoral care and write pastoral care plans, the understanding of the clinical care of patients in the specialized area, ethical issues that arise in the specialized area, the reflective practitioner, the religious, spiritual, social and institutional context, and working with others.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Critically assess the influence of the religious, spiritual, social and institutional context on personal ministry.
  2. Critically engage with ethical issues from a theological perspective
  3. Provide supervisory leadership in a specialised area of ministry for both individuals and groups
  4. Implement and evaluate the effectiveness of their pastoral plan for each person they minister to in the specialized area
  5. Critically assess the contribution of research literature to their ministry practice in a specialized area.
