Advanced Practice in Pastoral Supervision

This postgraduate unit  is designed to integrate the ability to reflect on and evaluate supervisory practice, particularly in the context of individual and group work, and to equip to act autonomously in a Clinical Pastoral Education Centre. Topics included theories and models of group processes, facilitation of group strategies, selection and evaluation of Clinical Pastoral Education students, multicultural considerations in the Clinical Pastoral Education process, the Clinical Pastoral Education Handbook including new privacy legislation, complaints procedure, code of ethics for trainees and supervisors, and the Clinical Pastoral Education Centre – administration and marketing.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Manage the interpersonal dynamics of individual and group processes
  2. Evaluate and justify their selection of candidates for a clinical pastoral education program
  3. Create a plan to educate students taking into account the students’ personal histories, psychological patterns, culture and learning styles
  4. Create a business plan for establishment and management of a Clinical Pastoral Education Centre
  5. Formulate a personal philosophy of pastoral supervision.
