The Dean and CEO of the SCD is Prof. Diane Speed
BA (Hons), MA (Hons), MTh (Hons) (all University of Sydney); PhD (University of London); LSDA (Australian Music Examinations Board)
Diane spent most of her working life teaching, researching and supervising as a medievalist in the Department of English at the University of Sydney, where she is now an Honorary Associate. Her particular academic interests include medieval thought, biblical narrative, hagiography, romance, exempla, and manuscript culture. Diane has been Dean of the SCD since the beginning of 2008. Her outside interests focus mainly on lay teaching and pastoring roles at St Mark’s Anglican Church Darling Point and Elizabeth Lodge. She also enjoys time with friends, her cat and garden, opera, ballet, concerts and reading.
Diane has ultimate responsibility for the management of the whole SCD operation including quality assurance, with direct oversight of the Office of the Dean, the research degrees and the Korean program. She negotiates necessary approvals for SCD projects with Commonwealth Government agencies, represents SCD in the Higher Education sector, and strives to ensure that the Member Institutions and all who contribute to the SCD endeavour have support to work together effectively to achieve the College mission.
Diane provides regulatory information and strategic planning advice to the College Principals and other staff, and speaks for SCD in the public arena.
